Have any elegant dresses lying around that you’ll never wear again?

If you do then drop them off at Albert Lea High School to help area girls buy dresses for prom at a fraction of the cost of retail prices. All proceeds go to the Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women.

Krystal Falk, prom adviser, said this is the second annual prom dress exchange. The school is accepting gently used prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses and evening gowns, which will be organized and stored at the high school until the event called Tiger Closet on March 19.

“I like that it helps give girls in need a chance to get a dress,” Falk said.

On March 19 all donated dresses will be available for purchase from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the commons area of the high school. The dresses will be sold for $25 or $50 and are available to ALHS students or parents with a student ID card.

Local vendors will also be displaying products and deals for the prom season. There will be a raffle during the event with donated prizes from local vendors.

Dresses can be brought to the high school office during school hours between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday before March 18. Falk said she’s glad the proceeds go to the Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women.

“They’re in need as well, so it’s a good way to help them out,” Falk said.
