Western Fraternal Life Association Lodge Zare Zapadu No. 44 met on Feb. 6 at the Glenville Legion for their annual Valentine potluck dinner and meeting. Following the meal Vice President Georgia Jech asked members to observe a moment of silence in memory of member Clifford Reichi who recently passed away.

Secretary Marie Krikava read the minutes of the last meeting, and Treasurer Jim Becker read the treasurers report.

Secretary Krikava presented a copy of the annual reports, which were completed and sent to the home office: Lodge Award Projects Form, Local Lodge Community Service, Calendar of events, Annual Survey of Lodge Activities, Lodge Officers Report and the Lodge Financial Statement for 2010.

The Financial Statement was approved and will be clipped to the minutes in the lodge book.

The home office stresses the importance of sending in referrals again this year. They give a bonus for referrals, so the group plans to work hard.

Thank you notes were received from Salvation Army Food Shelf for the 55 pounds of food we donated; from Ronald McDonald House Wish List items the group donated; and for the fruit plates the group delivered to shut-ins, and for the donations the group made to WFLA Minnesota Scholarship Fund and to the Glenville Legion Auxiliary.

WFLA National Convention will be held August 25-26 in Frankenmuth, Mich. The lodge voted to send Marie Krikava, Marcella Nelson and Roger Rayman as their three delegates.

Freeborn County Board Chairman Dan Belshan, presented a check of $1,050 to the lodge. This is the remaining 10 percent of the grant money the group was awarded in 2010 from the Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grant. The group would like to thank those who helped them reach the goal. They will have a celebration on June 25. They hope many will come to see our Historic Hall and enjoy Czech music and food.

Darlene Rayman won the Valentine box of candy, donated by Frances Kycek Swenson for her uncle, Leiand Kycek, last year’s winner. The former director, Harold Svejkovsky, started this tradition.

The next meeting will be held on March 13 at the Glenville Legion beginning at noon with a potluck dinner
