Council to narrow candidates

The Albert Lea City Council tonight is expected to narrow down a list of 12 or 13 city manager candidates to the top five or six. Sixty-two people from multiple states applied for the position.

Finalists will come to Albert Lea March 25 and 26 for interviews.

The winning candidate is expected to begin full time in the position in April or May.

Tigers’ Roar starts Thursday

Tigers’ Roar starts at 7 p.m. Thursday night and continues Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. both nights. Students from Albert Lea High School show their musical, acting and other entertaining talents for the public. Tickets are $5 and are available in the school office or at the door before the nightly shows. Look to the Tribune Thursday for a preview of the show.

A-C presents ‘Oklahoma!’

The Alden-Conger drama department will present Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma!” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. A matinee performance will be at 2 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students and senior citizens. The play takes place in the Alden-Conger School’s gymnasium.

It’s tournament time

The Albert Lea and Glenville-Emmons boys’ basketball teams and the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva girls’ basketball team are in action early this week in section tournaments.

NRHEG plays Blue Earth at 6 p.m. tonight in the Section 2AA South finals at Minnesota State University-Mankato. G-E plays Faribault Bethlehem Academy at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Section 1A West finals at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester, and Albert Lea opens the Section 1AAA tournament at 7 p.m. Wednesday at New Prague.

Candidates to debate

The candidates in the race for Freeborn County Commissioner District 5 and Albert Lea City Council Ward 1 debate on Wednesday at Albert Lea City Hall. The commissioner candidates will debate starting at 7 p.m., and the councilor candidates start at 8 p.m.

The debate is organized by the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce.
