All-Area Girls’ Basketball Team

Alyssa Sager, senior, Albert Lea
Alyssa Sager rewrote the record books in Albert Lea this season by breaking or tying five major records. Her 537 points and 139 steals each rank as most in a single season. She scored 40 points in a game once and grabbed 27 rebounds in another (both school records) and finished her career with exactly 1,000 points despite missing most of her junior season with an ACL injury.
Sager, at one time or another, played all five positions for Albert Lea and was the team’s most productive player on offense and defense.
She helped Albert Lea break school records for most points in a game (82), most steals in a season (455) and most steals in a game (26).

Carlie Wagner, freshman, New Richland-H-E-G
Only a ninth-grader, Carlie Wagner helped lead New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Gevena to a 23-4 record this season and a Gopher Conference co-championship.
She was the area’s second-leading scorer, averaging 20.4 points per game, and shot 48.7 percent from the field.
Wagner was productive in all areas of the game and led NRHEG in assists (4.9) and steals (4.1).

Val Sahr, senior, United South Central
United South Central’s Val Sahr was one of the area’s most complete players this season.
As she helped lead USC to their first conference championship in school history, Sahr finished her career ranked in the top three in school history in five major categories: rebounding, steals, scoring, assists and blocks. She also holds single-game and season rebounding records.
Sahr finished her career with more than 1,000 points and rebounds, and was named Gopher All-Conference three times. She is also on the All-State ballot.

Lindy Pins, senior, Lake Mills, Iowa
Lindy Pins wasn’t short on post-season honors this year after leading Lake Mills, Iowa, with 17.5 points per game against a tough North Iowa Conference schedule.
Pins was named unanimously to the North Iowa All-Conference First Team, was named to the All-Region team by the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association and All-District Team by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.
Pins also averaged 4.3 rebounds and two steals per game for Lake Mills.

Kalli Van Ryswyk, senior, Glenville-Emmons
Kalli Van Ryswyk was a force on both offense and defense this season as she scored her 1,000th point and finished as Glenville-Emmons’ top career rebounder and blocker.
She has the most career points in school history for girls’ basketball with 1,304, and is second all-time in the girls’ and boys’ programs.
Van Ryswyk was named team MVP by her teammates and Southeast All-Conference for the second consecutive year.
She also helped lead Glenville-Emmons to a second-place finish in the Southeast Conference and first-ever West Division championship. The team’s 16-8 record was the best in school history.

SECOND TEAM:
Katie Ovrebo, junior, United South Central
Katie Ovrebo was one of the area’s top 3-point shooters, connecting on 33 at a 32.4 percent clip. She ranks third in school history in 3-pointers made and averaged 8.2 points per game.
Kayla Stenzel, senior, United South Central
Kayla Stenzel averaged 8.9 points and eight rebounds a game this season. She averaged 2.2 blocks per game and ranks first in school history in most career blocks and most blocks in a game.
Kristina Cole, senior, New Richland-H-E-G
Kristina Cole scored her 1,000th career point on Feb. 15, and averaged 11.9 points per game. She averaged 8.9 rebounds per game and three steals. Cole also made 31 3-pointers.
Anna Schlaak, junior, New Richland-H-E-G
Anna Schlaak was the area’s top rebounder, grabbing 10.9 boards per game. She was NRHEG’s top defender, averaging 4.2 steals and 2.8 blocks per game. Schlaak averaged 6.9 points per game.
Jade Schultz, freshman, New Richland-H-E-G
Jade Schultz had 52 3-pointers this season while averaging 11.9 points per game. She also averaged three steals and 2.9 assists per game, and was Gopher All-Conference.
THIRD TEAM:
Kailey Davis, senior, Glenville-Emmons
Kailey Davis finished her final season at Glenville-Emmons with career records in assists (428), steals (375) and 3-pointers (60). She averaged 7.3 points per game this season and 5.3 assists.
Skyler Anderson, senior, Albert Lea
Skyler Anderson was Albert Lea’s second-leading scorer this season, averaging 8.7 points per game. She averaged 3.9 rebounds per game and 2.7 steals.
Britney Low, junior, Northwood-Kensett
Britney Low averaged 13 points per game this season and 2.5 steals. She also averaged a team-high 5.9 rebounds per game and made 19 3-pointers and 23.8 percent clip.
Ariel Keller, sophomore, Alden-Conger
Ariel Keller had five double-doubles this season as she averaged 10.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. She also averaged 4.1 steals and 3.9 assists per game.
Haley Matthews, senior, Lake Mills
Haley Matthews played in all 23 games this season for Lake Mills and averaged 5.2 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. She also averaged the team’s second-best two steals per game.
