Film tells story of two towns

Published 9:26 am Monday, March 28, 2011

We are a nation of immigrants — some of us more recent than others — and immigration-related issues seem ever-present in our news media these days, so I’d like to extend an invitation to anyone interested in the complex stories of immigrants (both documented and undocumented) to attend a free screening of “Brother Towns” or “Pueblos Hermanos.”

“Brother Towns” is a story of two towns — one in Gautemala, and one in Florida — linked by immigration, family and work. The film presents views and voices opposed to undocumented immigrants as well as voices of those committed to supporting all immigrants in the U.S., whether documented or not.

The film, which is the latest in the Paths to Peace Film Series, begins at 7 p.m. today in the Lecture Hall (Room 124) at Riverland Community College’s Albert Lea Campus. Admission is free, and an optional discussion will follow. All are welcome.
