AMOR — A 16-year-old girl was shot to death and a 17-year-old boy critically wounded at their home in western Minnesota.

The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office said injuries to one of the teens apparently were self-inflicted.

The girl was a sophomore at Perham High School. All five schools in the Perham-Dent School District were put on lockdown Tuesday. Students were not able to leave and visitors could not enter.

Superintendent Tamara Uselman says the lockdown was needed to ensure the safety for “students in a fragile emotional state.“

The shooting was reported near Amor around 9 p.m. Monday. The girl was dead at the scene and the boy was taken to Sanford Hospital in Fargo, N.D. The sheriff’s office says he remains in critical condition.

No arrests have been made.
