WELCH — A skier has died after hitting a chair lift tower post at Welch Village Ski Area in southeastern Minnesota.

Goodhue County Sheriff Scott McNurlin said 65-year-old George Conway of LaCrescent was fatally injured Wednesday when he apparently lost control while skiing and hit the tower.

Welch Village staffers, sheriff’s deputies and land and air ambulances came to Conway’s aid, but he died at the scene.
