Southland upends USC 58-51

WELLS — The No. 5-seeded Southland Rebels boys’ basketball team beat the No. 4 United South Central Rebels 58-51 Tuesday in the first round of the Section 2AA South tournament in Wells.
USC led 23-22 at halftime and for much of the game until Southland pulled away with five minutes left in the game.
Kyle Bauman led USC with 24 points, 13 rebounds, five blocks and five assists, and Cole Stencel added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Southland was led by Mike Goergen with 15 points and Seth Kluehn with 14.
Southlands moves on to at No. 1 Maple River at 7 p.m. Thursday in the South quarterfinals.
The season-ending loss was the final game for USC seniors Eric Lackey, Riley Niebuhr and Javier Rodriguez.
