SAN DIEGO (AP) — A judge says he will issue a written ruling by next week on a lawsuit by Target Corp. aimed at getting a San Diego pro-gay marriage group to stop canvassing outside its San Diego County stores.

Target’s attorney, David McDowell, answered several questions from Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Barton during a hearing Friday, including why the company had not presented testimony from customers complaining about the solicitors.

In its lawsuit, the retail giant alleges Canvass For A Cause activists harass customers outside the stores.

McDowell says Target can find customers to testify but he believes that is unnecessary. He says activists are on private property and Target has the right to enforce its no-soliciting policy.
