Tigers begin state today

The Section 1AAA champion Albert Lea Tigers wrestling team opened the Class AAA state tournament at 11 a.m. today against Hopkins at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

The No. 3-seeded Tigers are 27-3 and Big Nine Conference champions. Hopkins is 17-8 and a longshot to make the state tournament. As the No. 3 seed in the Section 6AAA tournament but upset No. 2 Minnetonka 42-27 and No. 1 Eden Prairie 37-26 after losing to both teams during the regular season.

The Tigers wrestle again at 1 p.m. and either 5 or 7 p.m.
