United Methodist Women met in the fireside room on March 1 with Merle Stenrud opening the meeting playing a piano prelude. Mary Faith circle was in charge of the program as Tracy Vandegrift introduced her daughter, Judy, and son-in-law, John Westrum. The two grew up in Albert Lea and have lived in Prague since 2003. They gave a very detailed account of serving as missionaries in Europe with a picture presentation along with many items of interest. A major point was the concern that the European countries are primarily atheist.

The business meeting was called to order by past president Marcelle Emston with concern and prayer. Fern Urbatsch gave the secretary’s report announcing that 1,718 calls to shut-ins had been reported in 2010.

Spiritual Growth chairperson reminded the group of the need for support for the mission trip to New Orleans and then gave a reading “One People.” Lea Nolting Church Women United representative reminded the group of the World Day of Prayer meeting at the Presbyterian Church on March 4 at 9:15 a.m. The theme this year is “How Many Loaves Have You?” and all were urged to attend.
