Tigers’ Westerlund, Hansen in 3rd-place match, Wangsness in 5th

ST. PAUL — Albert Lea wrestlers Lucas Hansen and Dalton Westerlund advanced Saturday to the Class AAA state individual third-place match, and Dakota Wangsness fell into the fifth-place match.
After being the only Tigers wrestler to earn a spot in the semifinals, 145-pounder Westerlund lost a tough 3-2 decision to Hastings’ Zach Rohr. Westerlund lost his chance at a state title, but regrouped and won in the consolation semifinals for a chance at third. He will wrestle for third place at 5 p.m. today against Luke Baroda, of Mounds View.
After losing in the championship quarterfinals Friday, Hansen won two matches Saturday and advanced to the third-place match against a familiar foe. Hansen will wrestle Owatonna’s Nick Scheffert at 5 p.m. today. Hansen beat Scheffert in the Section 1AAA finals last weekend.
Wangsness lost 5-1 to Erik Olson, of Sauk Rapids-Rice, in the consolation semifinals today and was bumped to the fifth-place match. He will wrestle Hastings’ Luke Rowh at 5 p.m. today for fifth.
The Tigers’ Trey Hable (152 pounds), Cory Hansen (160) and Conner Kortan (189) all lost in the consolation quarterfinals Saturday and were eliminated from the tournament.
