You Can Help

The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.

Home Delivered Meals: Frail and elderly people are delighted with meals delivered to their homes. Drivers and substitute drivers are needed to deliver noontime Meals On the Go a few times a month. Call Joann at 373-6031 for more information and to volunteer. It is especially important to have subs right now when drivers are on vacation.

Math Fair: The 12th annual Math Fair at Southwest Middle School is coming at the end of March and early April. People are needed from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. to judge the entries (advanced math skills are not required) and others to help average the scores. Call Marcie Maier at 402-9050 to lend a hand and a calculator; this is a fun event much like a science fair. Your presence supports what the kids have done.

Volunteer Driver: You can help seniors maintain their independence when they are no longer able to drive to their appointments. Ride Services of Freeborn County needs additional drivers — one or more days a week. Often it is just around town, but sometimes drivers are needed to go to Rochester or Minneapolis. Drivers are reimbursed for mileage and receive trainings; call 377-7433 for Senior Resources to volunteer.

RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
