10 wrestlers place at state

The Northland Youth Wrestling Association held their annual K-8 State Wrestling Tournament in Rochester, March 31 through April 3.

Nineteen Albert Lea wrestlers competed at the state tournament and 10 placed in the top six.
Tristan Westerlund, eighth grade; Zach Glazier, fourth grade and Cole Glazier, kindergarten, brought home gold. Runners-ups include Beau Johnsrud, eighth grade, and Jordan Nielsen, eighth grade. Third-place finishers were Dereck Samudio, eighth grade; Garrett Aldrich, sixth grade; and Nic Cantu, fourth grade. Eighth-grader Santana Acosta and sixth-grader Noah Nelson placed sixth.
The Albert Lea K-6 wrestling team placed third out of 32 teams. The little grapplers went 4-2 at the tournament and earned a chance to wrestle for true second against Annandale-Maple Lake but fell short with a 31-36 defeat.

The junior high team wrestled extremely tough going 3-2 in dual competition. The boys wrestled to a tie against Hastings for fifth but lost on criteria.
