ALHS presents ‘Leading Ladies’

Albert Lea High School will present the comedy “Leading Ladies” on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students. See a preview of the play in the Tribune Thursday.

Nation pays tribute to victims of crime

Freeborn County will honor National Crime Victims Rights Week today with a ceremony sponsored by the Crime Victims Crisis Center at the Department of Human Services building on Clark Street. During the event, a proclamation paying tribute to crime victims will be read and certificates will be presented to partnering agencies. Awards will also be presented to coloring contest winners.

Meeting Tuesday about offender

The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Department of Corrections will host a meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the London Township Hall to discuss information about a high-risk sex offender moving into the city of London.

The agencies announced last week Level 3 predatory offender Brooks Daniel Fisher will be moving to the city.

During the meeting, more information about Fisher and the predatory offender registration program will be discussed.

Film festival tickets on sale

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Tickets are now on sale for the 2011 Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival.

Opening night is next Thursday. For the first time, the festival opens with three films — “Page One: Inside The New York Times,” with director Andrew Rossi and The Times’ media columnist, Hopkins native David Carr; “Score: A Hockey Musical,” with actor Noah Reid; and the Norwegian horror-comedy “Trollhunter.”

The three-week festival will feature more than 200 films from about 60 countries.

This year’s festival includes French films, films with musical themes and a made-in-Minnesota showcase.

The festival runs through May 5 at the five-screen St. Anthony Main Theatre in Minneapolis.

Albert Lea baseball is home all week

This week’s a good time to catch the Albert Lea baseball team at home as they play all three of their games at Hayek Field. The Big Nine-leading Tigers (2-0) host Mankato West (0-0) at 5 p.m. Tuesday and a doubleheader against Faribault (2-0) beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday.
