Albert Lea boys, girls win in N.R.

NEW RICHLAND — The Albert Lea boys’ and girls’ track and field team both won the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Invite Tuesday by considerable margins.

The boys won with 209 points, outscoring the second place team by 123.

The team’s 4×100-meter relay of Kyle Kriewall, Alik Smed, Erik Anderson and Tommy Tiegs finished first in 46.44 seconds.

Kriewall won the 100- and 200-meter dashes, while Tiegs placed second in both events, and Smed placed first in the high jump (5 feet, 10 inches).

Clay Bratten won the 800-meter run, and Sean Laurie won the 400-meter dash. Brody Sundblad posted an impressive intermediate hurdles time of 43.2 seconds.

The girls’ track and field team finished first with 168.5 points.

The Tigers’ 4×800-meter relay team of Chrissy Monson, Ashley Tewes, Rachel Kenis and Kelsey Thomas finished first along with the 4×200-meter relay team of Bryn Woodside, Alissa Allison, Colleen Thompson and Sam Stanley.

The Tigers’ 4×400-meter relay team of Stanley, Tewes, Allison and Monson finished first in the 4×400-meter relay as did Monson in the 1,600-meter run and Taylor Friehl in the triple jump.

Galen Schulz and Larissa Hacker tied for first in the 300-meter hurdles.
