Boy Scouts are for hire

A local Boy Scout troop is renting out their boys in a different type of fundraiser.
Businesses or people in the community can hire Boy Scouts for spring cleanup projects like picking up sticks, raking, small painting jobs or other projects along those lines.
“We discussed several fundraisers and they liked the idea of being outdoors,” Sue Skaar, assistant Scout master for Troop 7 said.
Skaar said the troop thought about different items they could sell, but they wanted to find a different type of fundraiser and not have to worry about leftovers from products they couldn’t sell.
The troop is trying to raise funds for a trip to the Northern Tier National High Adventure Program in the Boundary Waters area of northern Minnesota. The trip will be at the end of June, and Skaar said the troop is excited.
“It’s something to look forward to,” Skaar said.
Because of the buddy system the Scouts use, people have to have at least two Scouts working on a project. Skaar said they’re suggesting a minimum donation of $15 per hour for two scouts, but they will appreciate all donations and more scouts can be arranged for on larger projects.
The Scouts who will help with projects are at least 13 years old and most are around 16 or 17. Skaar said they’re responsible boys who are looking to get outdoors and help people with yard work or other outdoor projects.
Skaar said they’re running the fundraiser through April and May, and people can contact her at 507-402-5724 to arrange projects. Because the Scouts are of school age most projects would have to be arranged for weekends or after school hours.
If the troop raises extra funds they plan to pass those along to younger scouts who will be going on a trip around the same time as their trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.
