COLUMBUS — An armed man who allegedly carjacked a taxi in Minneapolis and led police on a chase through the north metro area has been killed.
The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says the suspect carjacked a taxi around 5 a.m. Thursday in Minneapolis. Police saw the vehicle on Interstate 94 and tried to stop the driver, but he fled north.
Police used spike strips on Interstate 35E at 80th Street in Columbus, and the taxi went off the road and stopped in a ditch.
The BCA says when officers approached the taxi, the man was shot and killed. The BCA is not saying whether the man was shot by officers or whether he shot himself. A weapon was found at the scene.
An autopsy is being conducted and the investigation is ongoing.
