The lawyer of the former Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office secretary charged with theft from the department said she plans to contest a few elements of her client’s case during her next hearing.
Kelley Ann Davenport, 37, who faces four felony counts of theft, appeared in Freeborn County District Court on her charges Monday and was released on her personal promise to reappear.
She is accused of taking more than $3,000 from the department. At the time of her alleged actions, she worked in the civil processing department of the Sheriff’s Office.
Davenport, who now lives in Oakes, N.D., was ordered Monday to sign a waiver of extradition, obey the law, make all future court appearances and notify the court of any changes in her address.
Lawyer Peggy Rockow of Albert Lea estimated the contested hearing would last two hours. She waived having the hearing within 28 days.
