Randene Davis was crowned Minnesota Shorthorn Lassie Queen on Feb. 6, 2010, during the annual meeting and banquet of the Minnesota Shorthorn Association.

During her year as queen Davis was active in promoting the Shorthorn breed and represented the Minnesota Shorthorn Association at four state shows, three regional shows and six local shows including the Minnesota State Fair, the state Shorthorn Show in Jordan, the March Madness Show in Albert Lea, the Minnesota Junior Spring Classic in Austin, the Tri-State Show in Rochester and county shows in Freeborn, Mower, Rice, Steele, Waseca and Winona. She was also invited to represent the Lassie organization at the Iowa State Fair PACE Show.

When representing the breed Davis was dressed in the queen costume, which consists of a stole and badge, kilt, black jacket, tailored blouse, black boots, crown and sash. This costume is reminiscent of Scottish attire and the tartan kilt is known as the Royal Stuart.

Davis is the 20-year-old daughter of Lance and Sharon Davis of Glenville. She has been involved in Shorthorn cattle for 10 years and her family operates a herd of 25 registered Shorthorns. Davis is actively involved in the American Junior Shorthorn Association and is currently serving as president of the Minnesota Junior Shorthorn Association. She is a sophomore at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, majoring in elementary education. She will travel to Indianapolis, Ind., in June to participate in the National Shorthorn Lassie Queen competition.
