Masquerade ball Saturday to help local school

Join parents, students and community members for a masquerade ball fundraiser at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club Saturday evening. The annual event raises funds for St. Theodore Catholic School in Albert Lea.

There will be a live auction, silent auction and dinner served, all as a fundraiser for the parent-school association.

A social hour starts at 6 p.m., with dinner starting at 7 p.m. The silent auction runs from 6 to 7:45 p.m., with a live auction starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person, and raffle tickets are $5 each.

Friday

• The Deer Creek Cemetery Association will host a pancake and pie supper from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church in rural Glenville. A $5 donation at the door is suggested.

• The Albert Lea High School bands will present their annual spring jazz concert and dance. Join Jazz I and Jazz II, with special guests The Austin Big Band. The concert is free and starts at 7 p.m. in the high school commons area. Before the concert at 5:30 p.m., Roberta Grahn will provide free jazz and swing dance instruction in the commons area.

Saturday

• A Dad’s Belgian waffle breakfast fundraiser for 4-H will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at the Fairlane Building at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds. Cost is $7 for adults, $5 for children and free for children under age 5.

• Get ready for spring at the Spring Blitz being held at the Ellendale Community Building from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free and will have more than 20 vendors. Food will be served by The Sows Ear and photographers will be taking photos from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. From 9 to 11 a.m. there will be the opportunity to take photos with a real bunny.

• Come bowl for a good cause at Holiday Lanes from 1 to 3 p.m. The Arc of Freeborn County is holding a bowl-a-thon, and cost is $6 or free with $25 or more in pledges. Those who collect $45 or more in pledges will be eligible for grand prize drawings.

• Help the Albert Lea Grizzlies team raise money for travel and field expenses at the Aragon Bar starting at 7:30 p.m. Keg wristbands are $10 so come out to meet the Grizzlies team.

• St. Theodore Catholic School annual auction starts at 6 p.m. at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased from a parent or at the school.

Sunday

• A free pancake breakfast will be held for past or present military members and their families from 8 a.m. to noon at the National Guard Armory in Albert Lea.

• The Masonic Lodge in Albert Lea will host an Amaranth pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, eggs, juice and coffee.

• Help preserve an old Ford Model T by going to a pancake breakfast at the Freeborn Legion from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Menu includes pancakes, sausage, eggs, coffee and juice. Adults are $6, children ages 5 to 12 are $4 and younger children are free. Proceeds will help the Freeborn Area Heritage Society finance a display building for the car.

• Geneva Methodist Church will host a Belgian waffle breakfast from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and donations will be accepted. There will be a silent auction for Easter baskets and the menu will include waffles with a variety of toppings, coffee, juice and milk.

• Help support the Glenville Senior Center raise money for siding from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and donations will be accepted.
