NORTHWOOD, Iowa — A 70-year-old Northwood, Iowa, man died Saturday afternoon after his ATV rolled over in a ditch, pinning him underneath.

According to the Worth County Sheriff’s Office, Ronald Melvin Loken died after his John Deere Gator went off the road on Jonquil Avenue near Northwood at 2:37 p.m. Saturday. He went into the west ditch, causing the ATV to roll over, pinning him underneath.

A Worth County Sheriff’s Office news release states Loken was transported by Mercy Air medics to Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa, where he was later pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation by the Worth County Sheriff’s Office.

Assisting at the scene were Northwood volunteer firefighters, Mason City firefighters, Northwood and Manly police departments, Iowa State Patrol and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
