Rebels strand 14, fall 6-5 to Knights

WELLS — The United South Central Rebels softball team left the bases loaded three times Monday and stranded 14 baserunners in a 6-5 loss to the Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial Knights at Thompson Park in Wells.
The Rebels (2-2, 2-0 Gopher) led 4-2 after the third inning but were outscored 4-1 over the final three.
“We didn’t have timely hits and they did,” Rebels coach Brad Huse said.
The two teams combined for 25 hits and the Rebels had four batters with three hits including Marielle Schultz (3-for-4), Tayla Sunde (3-for-4), Ali Ramsley (3-for-5) and Kelsey Nowak (3-for-4). Leah Irwin went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Sunde and Novak also had an RBI.
Ramsley pitched all seven innings for the Rebels and struck out nine while walking one. She 10 hits and five earned runs.
The Rebels play again at 5 p.m. today against Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton (0-3, 0-3) at Thompson Park in Wells.
