Scouting for Food appreciation
Published 9:20 am Saturday, April 2, 2011
Our local scouts had a successful food drive this year. About 95 Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, their leaders and parents teamed together to collect more than 5,000 pounds of food for our local food shelves. We would like to thank all who participated as well as the businesses that supported our effort. The Freeborn County Shopper delivered the bags to residents as well as provided advertising. Western Rental donated use of portable signs, which are very effective. KATE/KCPI and Power 96 also promoted our event with announcements and interviews. The Albert Lea Tribune ran pictures with captions informing the public as well as a public announcement. Hy-Vee and Nelson’s Market Place collected food and provided carts for donations. We are convinced our food drive wouldn’t be possible without the vital support of the above businesses. An event like this is evidence of the high caliber of people we have in Albert Lea and our surrounding communities. If you had food donations that didn’t get collected, then please take time to deliver them to the Salvation Army or First Presbyterian Church food shelves, and we will do our best to make sure we collect it next year.
