Tigers place 2nd in coed meet

The Albert Lea Tigers boys’ and girls’ track and field teams combined to place second Tuesday in a four-team meet at Owatonna High School.

The Tigers scored 193.5 points, finishing behind first-place Owatonna (273) and ahead of Park Center (172.5) and Medford (84).

The Tigers placed first in six events including the shuttle hurdle relay of Galen Schulz, Gretta Johnson, Brody Sunblad and Tyler Wichmann in one minute and 9.15 seconds.

The 4×800-meter relay of Kelsey Thomas, Chrissy Monson, Tyler Bratten and Sean Laurie placed first in 9:28.50. Monson placed first in the 1,600-meter run in 5:24.68 and Sam Stanley placed first in the 400-meter dash.

Sunblad placed first in the 300-meter hurdles and the Tigers team placed first in the triple jump. The Tigers team placed second in the high jump, long jump, shotput and discus.

Other top finishers for the Tigers included Sidney Renaldt, third in 400-meter dash and the second-place 4×400-meter relay of Monson, Alissa Allison, Laurie and Clayton Braaten.

Larissa Hacker, Schulz and Johnson placed third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 300-meter low hurdles and Bryn Woodside and Colleen Thompson placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 100-meter dash. Thomas and Riley Schulz placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 800-meter dash.

“It was a fun meet,” Tigers girls coach Margo Wayne said. “We saw some times drop and competed very well.”

The Tigers boys’ and girls’ track and field team compete next Tuesday in triangulars against Owatonna and Rochester Century. The boys are at Owatonna and the girls are at Rochester Century.
