Girl dies when Jeep rolls in Worth County

MANLY, Iowa — A 15-year-old girl from Mason City, Iowa, died Saturday afternoon after a Jeep went off the road and rolled over in a ditch in Worth County, Iowa.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, Jasmine Barrientes, a passenger in the vehicle, died after the rollover. The crash occurred just before 3 p.m. on Raven Avenue about a half a mile south of Iowa Highway 9.
The State Patrol stated Barrientes was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. She was taken by Mercy Air Life to Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa.
The report stated Brianna Staudt, 17, of Mason City, Iowa, was the driver of the 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. She was reportedly northbound on Raven Avenue when she crossed the center of the road, overcorrected and lost control. The automobile went into the east ditch, rolled and landed facing south.
According to the State Patrol, another passenger, Kristina Daoud, 15, of Mason City, Iowa, was also injured; however, the report stated Daoud’s life was saved by a seat belt.
The Iowa State Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
The Worth County Sheriff’s Office, Mason City Police Department, Plymouth Fire Department and Manly Fire Department assisted at the scene.
