The Albert Lea Tigers boys’ golf team’s first Big Nine victories of the season Tuesday wasn’t the biggest news to come out of the Faribault Country Club.

In his first meet on the high school team, Albert Lea junior varsity golfer Lucas Hacker, 13, shot his first hole in one on a 137-yard par 3 hole with a six iron.

Hacker said off the tee he thought the ball would go over the green, but it landed in front on the hole, took one bounce and rolled into the cup.

“I didn’t believe that I got it,” Hacker said. “It feels pretty good to get a hole in one.”

Hacker, a seventh-grader, began his round on the 10th hole and got the ace five holes later. He said he’s been golfing since he was about 6 or 7 years old.

While no golfer on the Tigers varsity team shot a hole in one, the team did notch their first two conference wins of the season. The Tigers shot 327 and beat Faribault (332) and Mankato East (346).

Nate Stadheim led the Tigers with a 77, followed by Brent Nafzger (83), Lucas Peterson, (83), Brady Falk (84), Adam Syverson (91) and Nick Dulas (94).

“It was a great day to be a golf coach,” Tigers coach Riley Worth said. “We had great weather and got our first Big Nine victories of the season without our No. 1 player playing his best.”
