Two injured in Worth County crash

NORTHWOOD, Iowa — Two people from Iowa City, Iowa, were injured Tuesday afternoon in Worth County after their car went into the median on Interstate 35, came back up on the freeway, overcorrected and then struck the east railing of the bridge.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the car’s driver, Valeska Bailey, 73, was transported by Mercy Air Life helicopter to Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa, for injuries.
Passenger Earl Bailey, 75, was transported by Lake Mills ambulance to the same hospital.
The State Patrol indicates the crash occurred at 12:12 p.m. Tuesday on northbound Interstate 35 near milemarker 211. This is in between the exits for Northwood and Joice, Iowa.
Reports state the car, a 2004 Toyota Avalon, was northbound on the highway, but after crash it ended up facing south in the right lane.
Reports indicate the crash remains under investigation, and charges are pending.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Worth County Sheriff’s Office, Northwood Fire and Rescue, Lake Mills ambulance and the Iowa Department of Transportation enforcement and maintenance.
