Two people on a motorcycle were injured Saturday afternoon after they collided with a car on West Main Street in front of the Skyline Plaza.

According to Albert Lea Police Chief Dwaine Winkels, 38-year-old Anna Johnson, of Welcome, was transported to Albert Lea Medical Center and then taken by helicopter to a nearby hospital after the crash. Johnson was a passenger on the motorcycle and was ejected during the collision.

Motorcycle driver Robert Hillmer, 49, of Albert Lea, was also injured but was not transported.

Winkels state Hillmer and Johnson were westbound on West Main Street in a 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when a 2004 Ford Taurus, driven by Irene Ziner, 71, Owatonna, crossed Main Street from the Skyline Plaza parking lot and went into the path of the motorcycle.

The rider attempted to stop the motorcycle but could not in time and collided with the car. The motorcycle reportedly slammed into the side of the car.

Winkels said the case will be reviewed for potential charges.

It was unknown whether helmets were in use by the motorcycle riders.

A call to Albert Lea Medical Center to find the condition for Johnson was not returned before press time.

In 2009, there were 1,329 traffic crashes in Minnesota that involved a motorcycle, according to the Department of Public Safety.
