Eddie Cochran car cruise this weekend
Friday night will feature a car social at the Country Inn & Suites in Albert Lea at 4 p.m. At dusk the group will go to the fairgrounds for a drive-in movie featuring “American Graffiti.” Saturday will feature a car show during the day at the fairgrounds and a 26-mile car cruise starting at 6:30 p.m. ending at the fairgrounds with entertainment.
John McAndrew holds CD release concert
The Lighthouse Event Center in Albert Lea will feature John McAndrew for a CD release concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Tickets are available at Marshall Street Music, H-Vee or Stadheim Jewelers in Albert Lea or Coffee House on Main in Austin and are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Guest musicians from southern Minnesota will be featured at the concert, too.
Charter Commission meets tonight
The Albert Lea Charter Commission will meet at 5:15 p.m. today in the City Council Chambers to continue its discussion on a potential change to the city’s mayoral terms.
The meeting was recessed from the commission’s May meeting because the commissioners wanted to get more public input and have questions answered.
On the table is whether to change the mayoral terms from two years to four years.
Glenville Days this weekend
Glenville Days events will kick off Friday with a medallion hunt and “Minute to Win It” competition.
On Saturday, some of the highlights include a 5K river run, activities in the park, a parade featuring Miss Teen Minnesota International and a street dance, among others.
On Sunday, activities include a fundraiser breakfast for the National Youth Gathering and a church service in the park.
5 track athletes going to state
Five area track and field athletes will compete Friday and Saturday at the state meet at Hamline University in St. Paul. Chrissy Monson, of Albert Lea, will run the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races, and Carlie Wagner, of New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva, will compete in the high jump. Brody Sunblad, of Albert Lea, will run the 300-meter intermediate hurdles. Tony Willette and Hannah Goemann, of United South Central, will compete in the discus throw and 800-meter run, respectively.
