50 years ago — 1961

In the Five-Star Legion Baseball League, Glenville defeated Ellendale 10-0 behind the one-hit pitching of Glen Jensen. Jensen, Doug Cipra and Bob Grinold each had two hits for Glenville.

The Albert Lea VFW baseball team raised their season record to 3-0 with a 5-3 win over Owatonna. Denny Nelson was the winning pitcher, and Dave Muellar had two hits for Albert Lea.

The Minnesota Twins defeated the New York Yankees 4-0. Harmon Killebrew had three hits including his 20th home run and had all four RBIs.

25 years ago — 1986

The Albert Lea VFW swept a doubleheader against Winona. Jeff Troska pitched a two-hitter in a 1-0 win in game No. 1. Albert Lea won the second game 8-5. Winning pitcher Tom Vandenheuvel had three hits.

The Alden American Legion baseball team defeated Northrup 14-3 and 9-1. Matt Stenzel was the winning pitcher in the first game, and Rich Redman had three hits for Alden. Toby Koziolek pitched the second game victory. Alden had an 8-4 record.

Pitcher John White of Albert Lea High School was named to the All-Big Nine Baseball Team.

The Albert Lea Post 56 American Legion baseball team improved to 3-0 for the season with a 7-0 victory over Austin. Dennis Ahearn was the winning pitcher.

10 years ago — 2001

Named the Tribune All-Area Baseball Player of the Year was Seth Stadheim, of Glenville-Emmons, and the All-Area Coach of the Year was Jeff Reese, of New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva. Named to the All-Area Baseball Team were David Dahl, Adam Highum, Isaiah Parry and Isaac Walton from ALHS; Alex Drescher and Heath Reindal from Alden-Conger; Brandon Brackey, Nick Flatness, Andrew Greibrok, Mitch Meier and Seth Stadheim from Glenville-Emmons; Clark Field, Zach Jacobson, Dusty Reese, Tony Schlaak and Jens Wyrum from NRHEG; Adam Gruzke, Cole Iverson, Mike Soma and Travis Wermedal from United South Central.

Adam Hamberg pitched a no-hitter for the Albert Lea American Legion in their 4-0 win over Waseca.
