The Arc of Freeborn County has summer programs available for students who have cognitive, intellectual or developmental disabilities and their siblings. The Teen Club, for students ages 12-21, will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning June 15.
Kids Klub, for children ages 6-11, will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning June 16. Both sessions will meet from noon to 3 p.m. at the Arc Activity Room at 407 E. William St., Albert Lea., and will run for eight weeks. Participants will enjoy a variety of activities, including indoor and outdoor games, music, arts and crafts, cooking, outings to restaurants, parks and other community sites.
Arc staff are trained to provide general assistance to children who have low to moderate special needs. Staff to child ratio will be about one staff member or volunteer for each four children. Children who require more assistance should have a personal care attendant with them while at Arc.
Participation fees for both the Teen Club and Kids’ Klub are $32 for Arc members and $48 for non-members. Fees help cover the cost of refreshments, craft supplies, swimming passes, treats and all outings for the full eight weeks. Or parents may choose to pay for each day their child attends. Daily fees are $2.50 for Arc members and $3.50 for non-members. If more than one family member attends, the fee for the second child is half price. Scholarships are available for students who have developmental disabilities.
Registration is required. Registration forms can be picked up at the Arc Activity Room.
The Arc is also hosting a pool party for children and teens with disabilities and their families on Saturday, July 18, from 10:30 a.m to noon at the Albert Lea Aquatic Center. There is no cost.
