Betty Johnson, 88, Albert Lea

Betty Elaine (Folven) Johnson, 88, of Albert Lea, formerly of Rake, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2011, at Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Rake, Iowa, with the Rev. Terry Mahnke and the Rev. Kent Otterman officiating. Burial will be in East Cemetery in Rake at a later date. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Rake, Iowa.

Betty was born on March 2, 1923, in rural Kiester, to Gilbert and Alma (Fure) Folven. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Kiester. She graduated from Rake Community High School. She was united in marriage to Alanzo Johnson on Oct. 20, 1945, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.They had three sons: Larry, Paul and Steve.

Betty was a farm wife and homemaker who lived her life to care for her family. She loved cooking and baking and always had something ready in the oven for anyone who might stop by. Baking kringla was her specialty. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching her sons and then her grandkids play sports. She enjoyed winter vacations in Florida where she and Lonnie would follow the Minnesota Twins in spring training. She loved the outdoors and spending time on the farm and summers at their log cabin in northern Minnesota.

Betty is survived by her husband of 65 years, Lonnie Johnson; sons: Larry (Lois) Johnson of Albert Lea, Paul (Nancy Trudelle) Johnson of Savage and Steve (Becky) Johnson of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Sara (Chad) Summy of Bellevue, Neb., Ben (Sarah) Johnson of Byron, Molly Johnson and special friend Chris Bryan of Albert Lea, Daniel Johnson of Richfield, Scott Johnson of La Crosse, Wis., and Ellie Johnson of Albert Lea; great-grandchildren: Sophia, Charlie and Elsie Summy, Bethany Johnson and Landon Johnson. She is also survived by sisters: Gladys Rowe and Janet (Carlyle ) Engebretson; brother, Vernon (Sharon) Folven; sisters-in-law: Alta Erdahl and Genevieve Folven; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers: Omer and James Folven.
