June is National Dairy Month and Freeborn County’s dairy princess, Lindsey Miller, is ready to market dairy products.

Miller plans to walk in the July 3 parade in Albert Lea and hand out string cheese. She also will work at the ice cream stand at the Freeborn County Fair. She’s currently planning another event for the fair where she hopes to teach about dairy.

“I always work in the ice cream stand — it’s pretty fun,” Miller said.

Miller is also working on getting heifers ready for the fair, and she is still deciding whether to show a dairy steer or not.

Miller is the daughter of John and Alana Miller, of Oakland. They have about 120 holsteins and farm about 600 acres in the Oakland area. Miller has been helping with chores since she was about 7 years old.

“I started out just filling pails with grain,” Miller said.

Miller recently graduated from Austin High School and plans to attend the University of Wisconsin — Stout in the fall for graphic communications management. She said she’ll miss the farm life but will be able to visit it whenever she wants by coming home.

Miller was a milk maid in 2005 before being named Freeborn County’s dairy princess at a banquet in April by the Freeborn County American Dairy Association.
