Selling Amtrak — probably cheap — to greedy “entrepreneurs” will only cost the government more in subsidies, lost jobs and benefits and pay, hurt an already ailing economy and provide worse service that will cost more.

That is more Republican fiscal insanity. A 1972 United Nations report on the biosphere warned that over development was reckless and toxic industrial wastes endangered the planet and that cars and energy plants were big polluters. President Jimmy Carter listened — and still tried to protect jobs — but got viciously attacked. Republican administrations have done the exact opposite of everything the study said.

It’s nice to hear the media and other politicians starting to tell more of the truth about it all. It only took them 39 years.
