Abby Wood, 15, of New Ulm died Saturday, July 2, 2011, at her home.  The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm with the Rev. Hank Campbell of the United Church of Christ in New Ulm officiating. Burial will be in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Friday. To leave an online condolence for her family or to sign the guest book go to: www.mvfh.org.

Abby is survived by her father, Mark Wood, New Ulm; sister and brother-in-law, Brighton and Tyler Brooks, Fairbanks, Ark.; brother, Whitney Wood, Maryland; grandparents: Ken and Louise Wood, Clear Water, Audrey Wood, Walnut Creek, Calif., and Ruth McCrea Simpson, Albert Lea; her aunts and uncles: Pat Ayres, Clayton, Calif., Karen and Tracy Browning, Midvale, Utah, Jyneal McCrea and Mark Hofmann, New Ulm, Jason McCrea and Kate Michmerhuizen, Boston, Mass., and Jennie and Jan Backstrom, Turlock, Calif.; cousins: Tim Ayres, Nicole and Erik Raisanen, Laura, Brianna and Matt Browning, Phillip Wetmore, Quinn and Ramsey Hofmann, Lilli and Stuart  Backstrom, Gabriel, Finlay and Rowan McCrea.

Abby Gayle Wood was born on March 22, 1996, at home in Bend, Ore., assisted in delivery by her father, Mark. She had just finished her freshman year at NUHS where she was a member of the student council, tennis and golf teams. She was a member of United Church of Christ and employed at Paula’s Daycare. She was a dedicated Simms player and an avid Facebooker. Abby was loved by everyone and was the best kid in the world; she was a source of joy. Abby and her father had a special and honest connection. She died along with her mother, Bobbi McCrea, and sister, Savannah; and was preceded in death by her grandfathers: Jim McCrea and David Simpson.
