The Salvation Army emergency disaster teams will be opening a cooling stations today with the intent of helping to combat the heat.
With heat indices exceeding the 100-degree mark for the second day, the Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services has felt compelled to open two cooling stations in Albert Lea. The hope and intentions are to provide some relief for area residents.
The cooling station will be located behind The Salvation Army headquarters on 300 College St. The cooling stations will continue to be open as long as the public is taking use of this service. Misting fans and water will be available to those that stop for a heat break.
Captain Jim Brickson of the local Salvation Army stated, “We would like to take a proactive approach to pontential hazardous situations. This Salvation army is a home away from home to many Freeborn County residents.” Combined with the Salvation Army’s Daily Bread community meal the cooling center will afford a cooler place for people to stop by and enjoy the community that the Salvation Army brings to each city they serve.
