Essay winners announced

The Freemond Madson Post 447 VFW and its Auxiliary announce the local winners of the national writing contest, Patriot’s Pen. Each participant wrote a 300- to 400-word essay entitled “Does Patriotism Still Matter?” Next year’s topic will be “Are You Proud of Your Country?” and all students in grades sixth, seventh and eighth may participate. Entries are due Nov. 1, 2012. Pictured are the winners from Lakeview Elementary School, Halverson Elementary School and Southwest Middle School. Not all schools participated.
