MINNEAPOLIS — A heat wave is causing road surfaces to buckle in the Twin Cities and leading to a slow rush-hour commute.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says crews are working on pavement failures in at least seven locations in the Twin Cities. Lanes were closed in at least two locations late Friday afternoon.
MnDOT also reports pavement buckling at southbound Highway 15, south of Highway 10 near St. Cloud.
Because of minimal staffing during the Minnesota government shutdown, MnDOT says it expects longer response times.
The National Weather Service says Minneapolis peaked at 99 degrees Friday. St. Cloud reached 96, Rochester 95, Redwood Falls 93 and Duluth 91.
