Funeral services for Marion Mathilda (Sorensen) Hanson, age 91, of Albert Lea, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Curtis Zieske will officiate. Interment will be at the Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Marion peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 29, 2011, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.

Marion Mathilda (Sorensen) Hanson was born on Feb. 24, 1920, to Soren and Fannie (Petersen) Sorensen in Albert Lea. Marion was baptized June 13, 1920, and confirmed March 25, 1934, at Trinity Lutheran Church. She grew up in the Albert Lea area and graduated from Albert Lea High School. Marion began working early enough to pay Social Security tax on the very first day it was collected in 1937. She was employed as a clerk at Johnson Grocery in Clarks Grove and then went to work as a secretary-bookkeeper for Clarks Grove Hardware. On Feb. 23, 1946, she married Manville (Pete) Mattick in Northwood, Iowa. The couple lived in the Clarks Grove area raising their son, Douglas. Marion worked with Manville as they owned and operated Grove Café and Mattick Grocery Store. Marion also worked as a bookkeeper for Sorensen Bros. Inc. and Northern Valley Packing Co. Manville died on June 2, 1968. On Oct. 12, 1973, Marion married George Dunn at Trinity Lutheran Church. George died on Jan. 14, 1975. On Jan. 9, 1976, she married Wilfred Hanson at North Freeborn Lutheran Church. Marion was a member of North Freeborn Lutheran Church, its Ladies Aid and Altar Guild until it closed. She returned to Trinity Lutheran Church. Wilfred died on Dec. 27, 1984. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Eagles Auxiliary, Danish Brotherhood of America, past president and member of the Benevolent Patriotic Order of Does, secretary and board member of Sorensen Bros. Inc. for more than 20 years and served as secretary and board member for the Country Club Estates.

Survivors include her son, Douglas (Matt) Mattick and wife, Jane, of Menahga; grandchildren, Soren M. Mattick (Tiffany) of St. Paul, Thor M. Mattick (Kristen) of St. Cloud, and Joy M. Mattick of Burnsville; step-grandchildren, Paul T. Downey (Lesley) of Charlotte, N.C., and Katie M. Morrison (Erik) of Big Sky, Mont.; six great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Annika, Tyren and Bjorn Mattick, Paige and Claire Downey; sisters-in-law, Orva Sorensen of Albert Lea and Viola Mattick of Kiester; numerous nieces and nephews.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Soren and Fannie Sorensen; husbands Manville Mattick, George Dunn and Wilfred Hanson; brothers Phillip and Richard Sorensen; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.

Memorials preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church or St. John’s Lutheran Home.
