A 35-year-old Albert Lea man charged with selling marijuana and cocaine to a drug task force informant pleaded guilty on Wednesday in Freeborn County District Court to four marijuana sales charges.

As part of a plea agreement between his lawyer and the Freeborn County Attorney’s Office, Eric Richard Meyer pleaded guilty to four counts of fifth-degree marijuana sales in exchange for having six cocaine sales charges dropped.

The cocaine charges will be dropped at the time of sentencing, which has been scheduled for Oct. 17.

According to court documents, Meyer sold about 37 grams of marijuana to the informant from a house on Channel Road on different occasions in November and December of 2010.

The agreement calls for Meyer to serve a mandatory minimum time in jail of six months; however, because Meyer has been in the Freeborn County jail since his arrest in April, he has already fulfilled this term.

He was released from the jail Wednesday on his promise to reappear for sentencing.

Freeborn County District Court Judge Ross Leuning also ordered Meyer not use or possess any drugs or alcohol, not go to bars or liquor stores, comply with random on-demand testing, sign a waiver of extradition, and not leave the state without previous court approval.

Meyer was ordered to complete a pre-sentence investigation prior to his sentencing.
