The American Association of University Women’s first meeting will be held at 9 a.m. Sept. 10 at America’s Best Value Inn. The program will be given by Chad Adams, Albert Lea’s city manager, on his first impressions of the city. The menu will include an egg bake, danish, fruit, coffee or tea for $12.
Adams hails from Medina where he was city administrator for 8 years. Prior to that, he was city administrator in Onawa, Iowa. He has a bachelor’s degree in history and a bachelor’s in political science from Southwest Minnesota State University and a master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of Northern Iowa.
In his spare time, Adams like to play basketball and tennis and enjoys riding bike. Adams is married, and he and his wife, Ann, have three children, Alivia, 8, Grant, 5 and Will, 2.
Carol Frydenlund would also like to remind AAUW members that once again they will be collecting school supplies for one of the elementary schools so please bring what you wish to contribute to the September meeting. Lists of needed supplies can be found on the individual school websites and at Walmart, Shopko and Walgreen’s. A few suggested items include: No. 2 pencils, two-pocket folders, crayons (8 to 24 count), Elmer’s glue (not gel), glue sticks, large pink erasers, spiral notebooks (wide lined), dry erase black markers and yellow highlighters.
Any woman with a college degree is welcome to attend. Reservations are requested in advance and can be made by calling Sue Tripp at 377-0864. For those wanting membership information please call Carol Frydenlund at 373-2785.
