The Albert Lea City Council voiced unanimous support Monday for participating in a national moment of remembrance on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The action came after local officials received word that the U.S. Senate passed a unanimous resolution, establishing a national moment of remembrance at 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (noon Central) on Sept. 11.

Senators are asking local officials in cities and counties across the country to participate.

During the moment of remembrance, firefighters, police, churches and other institutions are asked to sound sirens and ring bells for one minute at 1 p.m. as residents remember the lives lost and the perseverance the American people have shown since that day.
