Eugene Turtness, 85, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Eugene Myron Turtness, 85, of Albert Lea, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church Chapel. The Rev. Daniel Baker will officiate. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery with military honors accorded by Freeborn County area veteran’s organizations. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Eugene died Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, at Good Samaritan Society.

Eugene Myron Turtness was born on Sept. 9, 1925, to Olaf and Inga (Botten) Turtness in Albert Lea. He grew up in Albert Lea and graduated from Albert Lea High School. After graduation, Eugene enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II. He served in the Pacific Theater. On Aug. 11, 1962, he was united in marriage to Lois Seipp at First Lutheran Church. Eugene worked for Wilson & Co. in the beef department until his retirement. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, the American Legion and VFW. Eugene enjoyed traveling with the Holiday Ramblers Club.

Survivors include sister, June Turtness of St. Paul; nephew, Robert (Maureen) Turtness of Stillwater; sisters-in-law: Judy (Erv) Ulrich of Northfield, Marlene Seipp of Alden and Ladonna Seipp of Albert Lea; and brother-in-law, Lloyd (Rosie) Seipp of Alden.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois; and brothers-in-law, Roy and Verle Seipp.
