A 30-year-old Wisconsin man charged with sexually abusing a young teenager more than 70 times throughout a six-year-period pleaded not guilty on Friday to his criminal sexual conduct charges.
Shawn Allen Kaehn pleaded not guilty to four counts, including first-degree criminal sexual conduct, involving sexual penetration of a victim 13 to 15 years old; second-degree criminal sexual conduct of a victim 13 to 15 years old by a position in authority; third-degree criminal sexual conduct of a 16- to 17-year-old, involving multiple acts; and fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct of a 16- to 17-year-old involving multiple acts.
His lawyer, Kevin Riha, requested a jury trial for his client, with a speedy demand. The trial is slated to last four days, including jury selection.
The alleged acts reportedly involved both intercourse and oral sex through July 2010.
During the court proceeding Friday, Riha also requested Freeborn County District Court Judge Ross Leuning to privately review treatment, counseling, school and other police records from 2007 to check for potential inconsistent statements by the alleged victim.
Riha said some of the records from the file indicated that the alleged victim made a prior report of allegations at that time.
If Leuning finds anything that might be relevant to the case, he will turn this information over to the lawyers.
Kaehn’s next hearing date has not yet been scheduled.
His most serious count, first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving sexual penetration, carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $40,000 fine.
