You Can Help

The following are volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.

Getting Ready & Back to School: Families with young students are making plans for their children’s hours after school. Their answers are in the Out of School Activity Guide and Community Resources Booklet distributed to all parents at the conferences for parents and teachers before school begins. Volunteers are needed in Alden on Aug. 30 and 31, Albert Lea for Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, and in Glenville on Sept. 6. Call Pat at 377-7433 for your time to help families get these planners.

Crocheting or Knitters: By Sept. 15 the RSVP supply of caps and mittens will start to be delivered to area schools, child care and nursing homes. Be sure to bring your contributions to the Senior Resources Office, 1659 W. Main, Skyline Plaza. Our donations of yarns are diminished; unused yarn is also welcome at Senior Resources/RSVP.

Reading Partners: School resumes in a few weeks; children will need adults to help them develop reading skills. Give an hour or two a week to help one child gain skill and confidence as a reader. Training is provided in early September so all you need is a love of reading and a concern for children. Call Pat at 377-7433 to be a Reading Partner.

RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
