The Salvation Army will discontinue its mobile food outreach after Sunday, as the need for these services has declined significantly.
In addition, Salvation Army food service at the city flood shelter will end after Thursday, Sept. 15.
Since June 22, Salvation Army staff and volunteers have served 87,000 meals, 123,000 drinks and 87,000 snacks. In addition, The Salvation Army has provided survivors with more than $500,000 in direct financial assistance and more than $100,000 worth of cleaning supplies.
Albert Lea volunteers David Hernes and Arturo Lopez were released from duty in Minot Tuesday. Capts. Jim Brickson of Albert Lea and Cindy Parker from Mankato, will be held over to complete the drawdown of personal and disaster response. During the stay from Albert Lea, the crew contributed to the delivery of almost 17,000 meals, 20,000 bottles of water and served more than 17,500 individuals. Hernes, a retired pastor, lead the team of pastors that provided emotional and spiritual care to 385 residents of Ward County.
“The amount of work our staff and volunteers have given to Minot flood relief is matched only by the generosity and gratitude of this community,” said Maj. Donald Kincaid, Minot Salvation Army administrator. “Though our flood relief efforts are winding down, our social services programs will remain available to this community, just as they have since 1896.”
