NEW HAMPTON, Iowa — A memorial was dedicated last week to honor Kadyn Jade Halverson, daughter of Matthew Kellogg of New Hampton and Kari Halverson of Kensett.

Kadyn, 7, died on May 10 from injuries suffered when she was hit by a truck while attempting to board a school bus near the home of her babysitter.

The memorial, dedicated on Wednesday, was placed near the swimming pool — a favorite spot of Kadyn’s to hang out with her cousins and father.

Kadyn’s aunt, Heather Kellogg, wanted to create a memorial in the New Hampton area. She spearheaded fundraisers.

The Kellogg family said it is grateful to all those in the area who made donations to the memorial, located in Michelson Park.

There is also a tree and more plants to be added next spring, according to family members.

Aaron Dwayne Gunderson, 31, of Northwood has been charged in connection with the incident with two counts of vehicular homicide and fleeing the scene.
