HOLLANDALE — A 3-year-old boy was injured Sunday evening after he was reportedly backed over by a riding lawn mower.
According to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, Landon Uthke was transported by a Mayo One helicopter to a Rochester hospital.
Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office detective Scott Golbuff said one of the boy’s legs and parts of his torso were injured, but the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
His condition this morning was unknown.
Golbuff said the boy’s father, Kevin Uthke, was mowing the yard at 24818 Freeborn County Road 118, three miles south of Hollandale, when he reportedly backed up onto the child.
The father found the child after the mower stopped working. The boy’s body was sticking out partway from the mower. It is unclear whether the mower stopped because of the impact with the child or other debris.
Golbuff said the child had been playing around some trees on the property prior to the incident. The detective did not know if there was any other supervision over the child.
Police received the call of the incident at 5:15 p.m.
