ST. PAUL — Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton is going airborne to get a better feel for a proposed Minnesota Vikings stadium site.

Dayton planned to fly Thursday over a sprawling former Army ammunition plant in suburban Arden Hills where the Vikings want to build a new stadium. Minneapolis leaders are vying to keep the team as well.

Dayton is taking his aerial tour in a state helicopter on his way to an event in St. Cloud.

Stadium activity has been intense in recent weeks as the Vikings lease in the Metrodome nears its expiration. The team has been seeking public money toward a new stadium for years.

Dayton is scheduled to meet Friday with GOP legislative leaders on stadium financing options and timing for approving a proposal.
